Diana Vickers has said that she only entered The X Factor "to be noticed".
The 'Once' singer, who finished fourth on the talent show in 2008, told the Daily Mail that she would not have been a good winner of the contest.
Vickers said: "I never expected to win The X Factor, I just wanted to be noticed. Of course, by the end I wanted to stay in the house with the other contestants because after 12 weeks together we'd grown close.
"But I don't think I was suited to the role of winner because I want - I need - to do my own thing, and writing songs takes space and time."
She added of her younger days: "I loved performing and I knew that was what I would do. I recently found a diary from when I was seven in which I'd written, 'I went to a party and everyone was dancing and singing, but I was the best'.
"I sounded like a right princess, but I put the hours in, doing tap and ballet and playing the trumpet and piano. I also learned singing and would imagine what it would be like to have a number one."
