Album scheduled for March!
Diana Vickers will release her debut album in March next year, her record label RCA has confirmed.

The 2008 X Factor semi-finalist, who is currently starring in West End musical The Rise & Fall Of Little Voice, is expected to release her first single a month earlier.

The 18-year-old previously revealed that she has teamed up with songwriters including Cass Lowe, Chris Braide and Nerina Pallot for the record.

The album is also expected to include a track written with Savan Kotecha called 'Sharks', as well as 'Jumping Into Rivers', which leaked earlier this year.

Lesley Sharp has said that the story of The Rise And Fall Of Little Voice pre-empted some of the themes of The X Factor.

The actress stars as the mother of Laura 'Little Voice' Hoff in a new West End production of Jim Cartwright's play, with the title role taken by former X Factor singer Diana Vickers.

Sharp told Metro: "Jim could never have predicted it when he wrote it but the play is a strong reply to all that.

"You might be able to mimic other styles but what's important is that you are true to who you are. You have to find your own voice."

She added of the new run: "[Cartwright] wanted to do a production for a long time but they couldn't do it until they found someone to play Little Voice. Jane Horrocks left such huge shoes to fill."

Horrocks played Little Voice in the 1998 movie adaptation of the play, which also starred Brenda Blethyn, Michael Caine and Ewan McGregor.

Diana Vickers has said that she is happy that she did not win last year's X Factor.

The singer was the ninth act to be voted off the show in 2008 after her performances of Avril Lavigne's 'Girlfriend' and Dido's 'White Flag'.

Vickers told the Burnley Citizen: "I'm really glad I didn't win. It's great to not have been manufactured into something I'm not, or forced into getting an album out quickly to get back on TV.

"I feel like I've got so much freedom and that I'm really getting my teeth into life. It's great."

Of the current series, she added: "It's very surreal for me to watch. I thought I wouldn't have been able to even switch it on without feeling sick but, surprisingly I can sit down and watch it and have a laugh watching it.

"I know what's going through the contestants' minds and it's such a rare experience to be on The X Factor that, although I don't know this year's contestants, I feel like I've got a connection with them."

Last year's winner Alexandra Burke has rejected claims that Simon Cowell may exercise too much control over her musical direction.

Diana Vickers has admitted that she had not heard of some iconic female singers before taking on the title role of Little Voice on the London stage.

The former X Factor contestant will appear in the West End production of Jim Cartwright's The Rise and Fall of Little Voice alongside Lesley Sharp and Marc Warren from tomorrow.

Vickers told The Times: "When I started, I didn't know who Marianne Faithful was, or Edith Piaf. I've always loved Dusty Springfield though."

Regarding her impressions of these and other artists for the play, she added to The Daily Telegraph: "I'm still learning every single day. I'm watching them on YouTube, I've got The Wizard of Oz on repeat.

"I've got the base for all of them and it's just about having to fit it all together. The team behind me have taught me little tricks of the trade."

What with all these new X Factor hopefuls taking over our minds at the moment, we'd almost forgotten all about last year's batch. Obviously Alexandra and JLS are doing amazingly well, but what about the likes of Eoghan Quigg and Diana Vickers? Well, to be honest, we couldn't be bothered to find out what Eoghan's up to, but, thanks to this picture, we now know that Diana is busy getting friendly with a man and a banana! Quite what that guy is doing by leaning right into Diana's face we don't know, and why there's a huge glittery banana on the seat next to her is a complete mystery, but it all makes for a rather amusing picture, don't you think? Diana is clearly not too impressed with that man, although maybe he's not after her at all and is in fact just trying to get his mitts on her giant banana... What do YOU think is going on? This picture is screaming for a hilarious caption.
