Diana Vickers has admitted that she tried to tone down her signature hand movements while performing on The X Factor.

The 17-year-old's quirky gestures sparked a well-publicised online campaign, with thousands of X Factor viewers joining Facebook groups protesting against her so-called "claw".

"It did make me a bit self-conscious and I tried to tame it," she told DS. "Brian Friedman would say to me, 'Tut tut Diana, the claw's coming back'. When it started rising to my face I'd be like, 'Oh no!'

"But if I stood there like a wooden spoon and never did anything with my arm, people would be like, 'Why does this girl never move?'"

However, Vickers insisted that she was able to see the funny side of the claw furore.

"People are like, 'Oh dear Diana, they're talking about your claw again', but I'm like, 'Excellent! I think it's a good thing'," she said.

"I just enjoy it and find it amusing. I'm a girl who has a wicked sense of humour so I just laugh it off."

Rex Features
Girls Aloud star Nicola Roberts has admitted that she is unhappy with X Factor voters following the elimination of Diana Vickers.

Vickers was voted off the ITV1 talent show last night after performing Avril Lavigne's 'Girlfriend' and Dido's 'White Flag' in the semi-final round.

Speaking on The Xtra Factor, Roberts offered her support to the 17-year-old singer, who was mentored by her bandmate Cheryl Cole.

She told show host Holly Willoughby: "I feel annoyed. I feel like: 'Why? Why have you done this to poor Diana?'

"I just feel like she didn't deserve to go at all. I thought she was a really individual person as an artist. Winning X Factor, I think she could have gone a very, very long way."

Asked if Vickers could still have a singing career, Roberts replied: "I think that she probably will, definitely. I do think that. But obviously, for me personally, I feel like: 'Why has Diana gone?'"

Alexandra Burke, Eoghan Quigg and boyband JLS will now compete for the £1 million recording contract in next weekend's final

X Factor judge Cheryl Cole has claimed that Diana Vickers was eliminated from the show because her fans were "too cool" to vote for her.

The Girls Aloud star predicted that her act would have a bright future in the industry after she was voted off in the semi-final round last night.

Speaking to Xtra Factor host Holly Willoughby, Cole explained: "You've seen over the weeks - Gary Barlow said he would sign her up. I just genuinely think the people Diana appeals to at home are a bit too cool to vote - those kind of people who wouldn't necessarily pick up [the phone] and go: 'Wow, she's amazing, she's my favourite'."

She added: "Honestly, I know people say that it's cheesy and clichéd, but I really don't think this is the end for her. Definitely not."

Meanwhile, Simon Cowell also predicted that Vickers would manage to maintain her existing fanbase in the coming months.

He revealed: "She's one of the few contestants who would leave a show like this and there'll still be a lot of interest in her."

I idn't want to have to report this, but unfortunately I have to. We all love Diana (why else would you be reading these haha), but Diana has tonight sang for the last time on the X Factor stage.

She blew the judges away with her performance of Girlfriend by Avril Lavigne, and also performed White Flag by Dido, and unfortunately finished 4th position.

Some site news, and Diana Vickers Fan will NOT be closing at all. We will be continuing to support Diana through her post X Factor career, so stick with DVF for all the latest news, as Diana Vickers is going nowhere!

Here they are then - the eight songs which stand between the remaining X Factor contestants and their all-important place in next week's Grand Final.

As the stakes go sky high these could be the most important songs our contenders will ever sing - so bring on one track chosen by the mentors - and one much-loved track picked out by the act on their own.

The tracks to be performed are (not in show order)...

Alexandra Burke Don't Stop The Music
Unbreak My Heart

Eoghan Quigg Does Your Mother Know

EAST Lancashire is being urged to vote Diana Vickers to glory in the X Factor.

The 17-year-old Westholme pupil, who lives in Accrington, is in the semi finals on the ITV talent contest this Saturday.

If she gets enough public votes, she will be in the final the following Saturday.

And, if she makes the final, Diana is expected to stage a free concert in King William Street, Blackburn, on Monday.

Blackburn with Darwen Council leader Colin Rigby urged people to pick up the phone and see her through.

Coun Rigby said: “I think for the girl and for the town it is great news.

“Everyone should get behind her and vote her through to the next round.”

Diana will be singing for a place in the finals on Saturday against JLS, Eoghan Quigg and Alexandra Burke.

The final four acts in this year's X Factor have performed for competition winners at a secret gig.

Eoghan Quigg, Alexandra Burke, Diana Vickers and JLS sang before 28 fans in the basement of a Carphone Warehouse on Oxford Street in London.

Show favourite Burke said afterwards that she was surprised that bookmakers are now backing her to win the contest. "It's very, very scary. I got that news yesterday. It actually shocked me as I wasn't expecting that," she said.

Meanwhile, 16-year-old Quigg again denied rumours that he is secretly dating fellow singer Vickers, claiming that their bond is merely platonic.

He said: "We're really good friends. Ruth and Alex were good friends, and JLS have got each other. She's not my type anyway!"
